Actor Larry Hagman enlisted Ojai Solar in making his 25,000 square-foot home on 44 acres in Ojai, California run almost entirely on solar electric power. Doing so has changed Larry's electric bill from $37,000 a year to a mere $13. Ojai Solar designed a structure consisting of 256 panels. The array has been very carefully positioned to collect the maximum amount of sunlight on the south side of the mountain, atop which Mr. Hagman lives with his wife, Maj.

The Rothenbergs' 54-panel Solar Array, Ojai, CA

Mr. Fred Rothenberg had his 54 solar panels installed in 2006. It was something he considered doing for a while, but his decision culminated after viewing Al Gore's film about the global climate crisis, "An Inconvenient Truth."

"Going solar helps us mitigate our effect on the environment," says Mr. Rothenberg. "And although I may not be around to see a return on my investment, I'm happy to have chosen an alternative to conventional electricity." Richard and Betina LaPlante installed 10 kW on their south-facing hillside in 2005 and have hired Mega Solar again to solarize their new guest house, currently under construction.
